TRANSPORTATIONS
How to reach Florence
By plane
The Florence and Pisa airports are served by several international airlines and they are daily connected to most of the main Italian and European Airports.
The distance between the Florence Airport “Amerigo Vespucci” and the city centre is 4 km. For transport to downtown there is either a swift shuttle service (cost € 4.50) between the Arrivals side of the airport and the centre of Florence running every 30 minutes practically all day long, or taxis (cost about € 25).
Pisa airport "G. Galilei" is connected to the Central Railway Station "Firenze - Santa Maria Novella" by a shuttle train service operating every hour (less than an hour ride).
By train
International trains (EC) and fast-trains (ES,IC) arrive in Florence at the Central Railway Station "Firenze - Santa Maria Novella", which is located just in front of the Conference centre. Eurostar trains connect Florence with Rome (1 hr and 35 min) and Milan (2 hrs and 45 min). Information can be found on the Trenitalia website.
By car
The A1 motorway, the main road artery linking the north and south of the country, runs past Florence, which has four exits. A third lane is currently being built on the Barberino-Incisa stretch of the A1. Florence

Florence ( Italian: Firenze, Old Italian: Fiorenza, Latin: Florentia ) is the capital city of the Italian region of Tuscany, and of the province of Florence. It is the most populous city in Tuscany and has a population of 364,779 (696,767 in the urban area).
The city lies on the Arno River and is known for its history and its importance in the Middle Ages and in the Renaissance, especially for its art and architecture. A centre of medieval European trade and finance, the city is often considered the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance; in fact, it has been called the Athens of the Middle Ages. It was long under the de facto rule of the Medici family. From 1865 to 1870 the city was also the capital of the Kingdom of Italy.
The historic centre of Florence continues to attract millions of tourists each year and was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1982.
