General Information

The Radiotherapy Branch of the Clinical Phisiopathology Department of the University of Florence is located inside the Careggi University Hospital (Building 11) and it works within Public Health Service. The Radiotherapy Branch , probably the biggest centre in Tuscany involved in Oncological Therapies, central referent for all the radiotherapic ativities in Tuscany, is also one of the main centre in Italy.

More than 2000 new patients are seen and followed in this Institute every year. Here we have 4 LINAC and one brachitherapy “dose rate” pulsatory machine. We have also a simul-CT and 4 treatment planning system station. To complete the description of the department we have a Medical Physics Unit , a Ward (19 beds) and an In-Patient Clinic (16 beds) for chemotherapy and support treatments. In the out-Patient Clinic many different coordinated groups of doctors work depending on every different type of tumour and in the same place we manage 13000 patients every year with regular follow up. In the Radiotherapy branch a scientific library and an informatic archive for the management of patients datas (more than 83000 registered cases are present.
