RESEARCH ACTIVITY

Her research expertise is focused on structural biology in solution mainly through high resolution NMR spectroscopy, to which she has also contributed methodological and theoretical advancements. She is an active player in Integrated and Cellular Structural Biology projects, combining atomic level characterization within a cellular context, exploiting a 'functional perspective' in the structural characterization. Her research focuses on proteins on proteins involved in several pathways responsible for metal homeostasis, and that of copper in particular,on protein import and maturation in mitochondria, on transient protein-protein interactions. She is developing and exploiting an absolutely innovative approach in vaccine design, i.e. Structural Vaccinology, based on the structural characterization of the antigens and of their interaction with antibodies. She is also developing approaches and applications of in cell NMR. She is one of the founders of the Center of Magnetic Resonance (CERM) of the University of Florence, a major European NMR infrastructure in the Life Sciences
