RESEARCH ACTIVITY

Full professor of General and Inorganic chemistry at the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Florence. He is author of more than 500 pubblications in the following fields 1) spectroscopic and structural characterization of coordination compounds; 2) study of the structure-function relationship in metalloenzymes; 3) isolation and characterization of enzymes involved in biodegradation processes of aromatic compounds, like laccases and ring opening dioxygenases; 4) synthesis of metalloenzymes' inhibitors with potential pharmaceutical applications. In this latter field many carbonic anhydrase inhibitors have been patented as anticancer drugs and/or diagnostic probes. He is presently involved in two European Collaborative Research Projects.
