Fees and funding
The student selected during the competitive entry examination receives a three year scholarships of around 1.000 Euros (after tax) per month, which is increased by 50 percent on occasion of field visits and study periods abroad.
Additional foreign students who pass the admission exam can be enrolled in the PhD course if they hold a scholarship provided by external institutions.
The PhD students without a fellowship are required to pay an enrolment fee of around 1,200 Euros per year; in this regard, they are strongly encouraged to look for external fellowships to pay for the enrolment fee and their studies.
The PhD students endowed of the University of Florence fellowships are entitled to receive additional fellowships only if these have a supplementary nature, e.g. in case of travel allowances for fieldwork or research projects abroad.
PhD students are also entitled to receive the Socrates/Erasmus fellowships (about Euro 180 per month) and related facilitations if they carry out a period of study in a University abroad. PhD students are allowed to stay abroad for a maximum of 18 months.
Generally, PhD students can hold a job (without any remuneration limit); however, they have to submit a detailed request to the PhD Director in order to explain the nature of this job. Most importantly, these working activities need to be deemed compatible with the PhD programme by both the Director and the Board of Lecturers. |
