Second year

The admission to the second year is decided by the Board of lecturers of the PhD programme.

During the second year the PhD student has to earn 60 credits, and for this reason he/she is required to:

1.     Finalise and present the second research paper by the end of February (10 credits).

2.    Prepare by the end of February a preliminary thesis proposal that has to be handed to the PhD Director and to the thesis supervisor as well. The preliminary proposal draft needs to be delivered by March (10 credits).

3.    Prepare and complete the third research paper (10 credits) to be assigned by the end of April. This paper is meant to be the introductory and methodological section of the PhD thesis and has to be presented by the end of July. In addition, the PhD student may have the opportunity to undertake a first field trip, which should be related to the PhD thesis, either in a developing country or in a developed countrys academic institution.

4.    Finalise the thesis proposal, submit it to the PhD Director and to the supervisor, and discuss the thesis proposal by October (20 credits).

5.     Carry out, if necessary, a fieldwork research in a developing country related to the PhD thesis.

6.    Support the activities of the PhD programme and assist in the different courses of the Department of Economics at Florence University (10 credits).
