Co-ordination:
The Infectious
Diseases Division of the University of Florence (UFDID), Italy, is
the project co-ordinator due to the consolidated relationship with
Latin American partners and its vast experience of operational research
in the region. The Division of International Health (IHCAR), Department
of Public Health Sciences, Karolinska Institute (KI), Stockholm, Sweden
with its previous experience (T. Falkenberg and G. Tomson) resulting
from successful co-ordination of the EC financed project: the INCO-DC
project "Towards Good Pharmacy Practice in Thailand and Vietnam
- A Multi-intervention Approach to Rationalise Drug Use Through Private
Pharmacies", is assisting UFDID in co-ordinating the project.
UFDID is responsible for the administrative activities related to
the central management of the project. It is ensuring co-ordination
of activities between all partners, adherence to the project schedule,
and provide the required technical reports on the progress of the
project to the Commission. UFDID will also be responsible for ensuring
good communication between the different partners throughout the duration
of the project.
Decision-making
structure:
Decisions are taken collectively among partners in the scientific
committee of 8 members (two from each country). Strategic decisions
are taken on mutual agreement reached by all partners in the central
committee. A number of subcommittees were formed to facilitate the
project activities. These are: an editorial committee (responsible
for content in internal and external documents), a field operation
committee (responsible for activities related to field work), a
dissemination committee (responsible for workshops, seminars) and
a finance committee. Each partner country has its own internal structures
with one named individual from each partner as the leader of the
partner country. If the name is changed at any point, the new person
has to be agreed upon by the other partner leaders. UFDID as the
co-ordinator is in direct contact with EU on behalf of the consortium.
