The third EU health programme (2014-2020) it is the main tool used by the European Commission to foster cooperation between Member States and to support and develop EU health activities. The program is implemented through annual work plans setting out the priority areas and criteria for funding actions under the programme.
The programme is managed by the Commission with the collaboration of the Consumers, Health, Agriculture and Food Executive Agency (CHAFEA).
The legal basis of the current health programme is Regulation (EU) no. 282/2014 and is part of the wider Europe 2020 strategy, which aims to make the European Union an intelligent, sustainable and inclusive economy, capable of promoting growth for all. To achieve this goal, the good health of the population is a fundamental requirement.
The programme pursues four main objectives:
The programme entails three types of actions: projects, joint actions and operation grants.
The EU’s third health programme entered into force in 2014 and will end in 2020. The overall budget of the programme is € 449.4 million.
