QS Rankings 2020, the University of Florence earns 53 positions

The University also rises in the national ranking

The University of Florence shows the most significant growth among Italian universities in the 2020 World University Rankings by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). Unifi gains 53 positions compared to the previous year and stands at 448th place. It was 505th in the previous ranking.

A real leap forward that places the University of Florence in twelfth place among the thirty-four Italian universities examined.  In 2019 Florence was the thirteenth and thus gained a position.

The ranking, now in its sixteenth edition, is based on the consultation of teachers, academics and researchers, as well as managers and directors of human resources. It includes the analysis of scientific publications and citations and evaluates the relationship between teaching staff and students.

From the analysis of the indicators of the QS World University Rankings 2020 the University's excellent positioning in the academic reputation (241st place globally) stands out. The indicator regarding the relationship between research output citations over the last five years and the number of teaching staff is also very positive and represents a research quality indicator (333rd place).

Unifi is also in sixth place among universities in Italy for numerical ratio between foreign students and total students and seventh by numerical ratio between teaching staff and students.

"We are extremely satisfied with this result that rewards the commitment of our University,” says the president of the University of Florence Luigi Dei, “the performance recorded by QS attests to an overall improvement in the quality of teaching and constitutes a recognition of the competitiveness of our research of which are also the expression of the excellent departments, the projects financed by the European Union, such as the ERCs and the Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions, and those of national interest supported by the Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR), such as the PRINs (National Interest Research Projects).”
