The University of Florence joins other institutions in the celebrations for the seventh centenary of Dante Alighieri's death during the whole of 2021.
Together with the “Aldo Palazzeschi” Study Center, there are three departments promoting a series of initiatives that take place from March to November: Literature and Philosophy (DILEF); History, Archeology, Geography, Fine and Performing Arts (SAGAS); Education, Languages, Interculture, Literatures and Psychology (FORLILPSI). The University Museum System also participates to the initiatives.
The influence of Dante’s work on the modern protagonists of our poetry is investigated in the cycle of online conferences entitled “Dante e i poeti del Novecento” (Dante and the poets of the twentieth century).
The relationship between Dante and Florence in the years immediately following his death until the middle of the 1300s is the theme of the exhibition “Onorevole e antico cittadino di Firenze” (Honorable and ancient citizen of Florence) to be held at the Bargello National Museum.
Among the appointments also “In the name of Dante 2021. Dialogue with Walter Siti”, “Dante and the Jewish mysticism”, “Dante Alighieri as a great European educator” and “The reception of Dante’s Latin works in Slavic countries”. Readings, performances, theme guided tours will also be held at the various branches of the University Museum and the Botanical Gardens.
