The University of Florence has been active for many years to offer students with disabilities equal opportunities in their right to education, by implementing specific actions to remove obstacles limiting their integration in the university world.
The Study and Research Centre for Disability Issues has been set up to:
On the basis of their specific needs, students with disabilities can ask for individual learning aids. Those in need of personalised assistance can ask for an individual collaborator, or those who have a specific disability can request subsidies, specific learning aids or the support of a sign language interpreter. Requests should be addressed to CESPD which, after assessing the case, will arrange for the necessary actions to be implemented.

Moreover, in each School one or more academic staff are in charge of students with disabilities' issues. The School coordinators for disability issues (Delegati di Scuola per la disabilità/DSA) are a direct academic reference point for students with disabilities who need specific orientation and support in the school of their choice.
To facilitate access to resources some specific services have been activated, including home delivery loan service "The library ... comes to you!".

Lastly, additional services for students with disabilities are offered by the Tuscan Regional Board for the Right to University Education Azienda per il Diritto allo Studio - DSU Toscana (in Italian).
