The third EU health programme (2014-2020) it is the main tool used by the European Commission to foster cooperation between Member States and to support and develop EU health activities. The program is implemented through annual work plans setting out the priority areas and criteria for funding actions under the programme.
The programme is managed by the Commission with the collaboration of the Consumers, Health, Agriculture and Food Executive Agency (CHAFEA).

Legal basis

The legal basis of the current health programme is Regulation (EU) no. 282/2014 and is part of the wider Europe 2020 strategy, which aims to make the European Union an intelligent, sustainable and inclusive economy, capable of promoting growth for all. To achieve this goal, the good health of the population is a fundamental requirement.

Objectives

The programme pursues four main objectives:

  • Promote health, prevent disease and foster supportive environments for healthy lifestyles, according to the “health in all policies” principle
  • Protect Union citizens from serious cross-border health threats
  • Contribute to innovative, efficient and sustainable health systems
  • Facilitate access to better and safer healthcare for EU citizens 

Structure and actions

The programme entails three types of actions: projects, joint actions and operation grants.

Duration and budget

The EU’s third health programme entered into force in 2014 and will end in 2020. The overall budget of the programme is € 449.4 million.

How to participate

Participant Identification Code (PIC)

To participate in a call for proposals under the Third EU Health Programme, the participating organization must be registered in the Participant Portal and in possession of the PIC. The PIC for the University of Florence is 999895789.

How to apply

The proposal can be submitted through the European Commission Funding & tender opportunities portal.

Specific participation conditions

The calls issued within the various actions present specific participation requirements that must be carefully considered before starting the preparation of your project proposals.
