PROFILO
Laureato in Scienze Agrarie Tropicali e Subtropicali presso la Facoltà di Agraria dell’Università degli Studi di Firenze, il Dott. Masella ha poi conseguito il titolo di Dottore di Ricerca in Ingegneria-Agroforestale presso il Dipartimento di Ingegneria Agraria e Forestale della medesima Università, dove attualmente occupa la posizione accademica di ricercatore a tempo determinato (L.240/10 tipo B).
Ha dato inizio alla sua attività di ricerca focalizzando gli studi sulle problematiche della meccanica e meccanizzazione agraria affrontando in particolare i temi della raccolta meccanica delle uve e delle olive, la trazione animale, la gestione delle aree verdi urbane con specifico riferimento alle prestazioni delle macchine tagliaerba. Un importante ambito di studio e ricerca è poi stato quello dell’impiantistica agroalimentare afferente ai campi dell'elaiotecnica e dell'enologia, al caffè ed all'industria panificatoria.
L’ideazione e la verifica sperimentale di soluzioni innovative di trasformazione e trattamento delle matrici alimentari, lo studio degli effetti dei processi di trasformazione sulla qualità dei prodotti, packaging e shelf-life degli alimenti, sono stati gli aspetti centrali dell'attività di ricerca. Durante l’esperienza come ricercatore a tempo determinato presso il Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (IBBA-CNR, Milano), ha approcciato le tematiche delle bioenergie, focalizzando l'attenzione sullo studio degli impatti ambientali seguendo il criterio del Life Cycle Thinking ed acquisendo competenze nell’utilizzo di software e database dedicati alla stima degli impatti ambientali di processi e prodotti nel loro ciclo di vita (Life Cycle Assessment).
Durante l'attività di ricerca ha quindi maturato esperienza e conoscenze nella gestione di prove di campo e di laboratorio nel settore dell'ingegneria agraria e dell’impiantistica agroalimentare, redazione di piani sperimentali, raccolta ed analisi statistica dei dati, ideazione e messa a punto di tecniche e protocolli innovativi di trasformazione, attività analitica di laboratorio per la valutazione delle proprietà fisico-meccaniche e qualitative degli alimenti.

Il Dott. Graduated in Tropical and Subtropical Agricultural Sciences at the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Florence, Dr. Masella then obtained the PhD in Doctor in Agroforestry Engineering at the Department of Agricultural and Forestry Engineering of the same University, where currently occupies the academic position of fixed-term researcher (L.240 / 10 type B).
He started his research by focusing his studies on the problems of mechanics and agricultural mechanization, dealing in particular with the issues of mechanical harvesting of grapes and olives, animal traction, management of urban green areas with specific reference to the performance of lawnmower machines. . An important field of study and research was then that of agro-food plant engineering relating to the fields of olive oil processing and enology, coffee and the bakery industry.
The design and experimental verification of innovative solutions for the transformation and treatment of food matrices, the study of the effects of transformation processes on the quality of products, packaging and shelf-life of food, were the central aspects of the research activity. During his experience as a fixed-term researcher at the National Research Council (IBBA-CNR, Milan), he approached the issues of bioenergy, focusing attention on the study of environmental impacts following the criterion of Life Cycle Thinking and acquiring skills in use of software and databases dedicated to estimating the environmental impacts of processes and products in their life cycle (Life Cycle Assessment).
During his research, he therefore gained experience and knowledge in the management of field and laboratory tests in the field of agricultural engineering and agro-food engineering, drafting of experimental plans, collection and statistical analysis of data, conception and development of innovative transformation techniques and protocols, laboratory analytical activity for the evaluation of the physical-mechanical and qualitative properties of food.
