Matteo Puttilli è laureato in Geografia presso l’Università degli Studi di Torino (2006) e dottore di ricerca in Ambiente e Territorio (indirizzo Pianificazione Territoriale e Sviluppo Locale) presso il Dipartimento Interateneo Territorio dell'Università e del Politecnico di Torino (2010).
Ha svolto attività di ricerca come assegnista presso il Dipartimento Interateneo Territorio dell’Università e del Politecnico di Torino e come consulente presso altri Dipartimenti e Centri di ricerca interni ed esterni all’Università.
Ha insegnato presso le ex facoltà di Scienze Politiche e di Scienze della Formazione dell’Università di Torino.
Dal 2012 al 2015 è stato ricercatore a tempo determinato (tipo A) presso il Dipartimento di Scienze Economiche e Aziendali dell’Università degli Studi di Cagliari, dove ha insegnato Geografia economica.
Dal 2015 è stato ricercatore a tempo determinato (tipo B) e dal 2018 è professore associato presso il Dipartimento di Storia, Archeologia, Geografia, Arte e Spettacolo (SAGAS) dell'Università degli Studi di Firenze.
MATTEO PUTTILLI is Associate professor of Geography (M-GGR/01) at the Department of History, Archaeology,Geography, Fine and Performing Arts, where he teaches subjects related to Urban geography, Politicalgeography and Geography education.
His research interests lie at the intersection of social, political and environmental geography, with a specific focuson urban spaces. His research interests in the field of urban studies include:
- Urban transformations, with a specific focus on the touristification of historical centres and related socio-spatialimpacts;- Socio-environmental conflicts, with a specific focus on perceived urban marginality and socio-spatial justice;- Emotional geographies and children geographies, with a specific focus on the perception of urban changeacross different cultural contexts.
From the methodological point of view, his activity is empirically and action-research oriented; he makes use ofboth quantitative and qualitative methods, including visual and multimedia research tools and participatoryresearch. He has conducted fieldwork in different countries and cultural contexts. He is involved in internationaland national research networks, and his work has been published by refereed journals and publishers in Italy andabroad.

Matteo Puttilli is Associate Professor of Geography at SAGAS Department. After graduating in Geography at the University of Turin (2006), he received his PhD in Environmental and Territorial Studies - Spatial Planning and Local Development at the University and Polytechnic of Turin (2010). After research and teaching experiences in Torino and Cagliari, he joined the University of Florence in 2015. His research topics include the nexus between intangible cultural heritage and sustainable tourism, with a focus on energy justice, environmental conflicts and alternative food networks; urban marginality and socio-spatial justice; theory and practice of local and regional development.
