EU Programmes

The University of Florence has been actively and successfully participating for many years in the programmes promoted by the European Union. Specifically, the University of Florence is directly involved in various European Cooperation Programmes and in further funding opportunities offered within the different Directorate-Generals of the European Commission.

In the sphere of international research, there is a large number of projects funded by the European Union, especially within the Framework Programmes for Research and Technological Development, which are the main tool of Community policy in the research sector.

Based on the Treaty establishing the European Union, the Framework Programmes serve two main strategic objectives: strengthening the scientific and technological bases of industry, thus encouraging its international competitiveness; and promoting research activities to support other EU policies.

The University of Florence has participated in these programmes since the early ‘90s with very satisfactory results. In the recently concluded Seventh Framework Programme (2007-2013), funding has totalled over 40 million Euros.

The University of Florence actively participates in Horizon 2020, the new programme of the European Union for research and innovation.
