Our values

The Statute of the University of Florence (art. 1 and 2) establish the general principles guiding the University. The Code of Ethics commits all members of the university community to promote and spread the fundamental values of legality, solidarity, and the rejection of all forms of discrimination, ensuring compliance with and application of the general principles set out in the Statute.

The institutional missions

Research, hight education, cooperation with society

The University’s statutory mission guides its commitment to inclusive and innovative teaching and to contributing, through research across all fields of knowledge and the application of its results, to the social, cultural, and economic growth of the local community, the country, and the world.

  • Work towards the free development and exchange of knowledge and higher education
  • Promote the development of critical knowledge, open to the exchange of information and cooperation and interaction between cultures, as a factor of progress and a tool for contributing to the affirmation of the dignity of all human beings and to the just and peaceful coexistence of peoples
  • Ensure the development, innovation, enhancement and exchange of knowledge for the benefit of individuals and society as a whole

The vision

To stand out as a leading player in the creation of a knowledge society

The vision projects the University into the future it aims to help generate: a society whose development and competitiveness are grounded in knowledge, research, and innovation, growing sustainably and upholding the principles of social justice.
