Visiting Professors

The University of Florence, within the framework of its institutional activities aimed at strengthening its process of internationalization, welcomes every year scholars of international renown.

On the basis of its own Regulations, it may confer the title of visiting professor on Italian or foreign scholars of high scientific qualification, who are or have been employed at universities, institutions, or foreign organizations, and who are invited to carry out teaching activities (including seminars) within courses or study programmes and/or research activities at the University.

Activities requested from a Visiting Professor

• Educational activities and/or seminars within an Educational Programme of the university
• Research activities and possibly seminars

The Visiting Professor can be a member of examination commissions and supervise theses.

How to be a Visiting Professor

The status of Visiting Professor is to be conferred by the Director of the hosting Department by means of a specific provision and it is to be valid for the entire duration of the activities to be carried out at the University.

Period of visit at Unifi and benefits

A Visiting Professor’s period of visit at Unifi can range from a minimum of 5 consecutive days to a maximum of 12 months. During his/her visit at Unifi, the Visiting Professor is provided with:

• support relating to the procedures for entry in Italy;
• adequate work station within the Department, as well as any spaces and equipment for carrying out the agreed activities;
• insurance coverage for accidents and civil liability;
• access to online databases;
• access to the University libraries;
• e-mail account;
• access to university canteens;
• support to find accommodation.
