Enrolment in First (L) and Single Cycle Degrees (bachelor’s)

Requirements

Anyone holding a secondary/high school diploma or another qualification obtained abroad that is officially recognized as valid may enrol in any First or Single (bachelor’s) degree programme.

Students from the European Union and non-EU students treated as equivalent (levelled) to EU students may enrol in a programme at the University of Florence either as full-time students or as part-time students (with a reduction in tuition fees and academic workload; for more information, see the Part-time webpage).

Entrance knowledge assessment test – Unrestricted access courses

Students enroling in a First Cycle or Single Cycle Degree (bachelor’s) degree programme are required to take an entrance knowledge assessment test.

This test may also be taken after enrolment. It covers basic knowledge and varies according to the specific degree programme. Each programme establishes the criteria for passing the test or for assigning any additional educational requirements (obblighi formativi aggiuntivi - OFA).

All information regarding the entrance knowledge assessment test and the fulfillment of additional educational requirements (OFA) is available on the Schools’ websites.

Further details on enrolment procedures are published on the page Unrestricted programmes | TOLC and other admission tests.

How to submit the enrolment application

Restricted‑admission degree programmes

To apply for enrolment in nationally or local restricted‑admission programmes, students must follow the instructions and meet the deadlines specified in the admission notices for each programme.

Enrolment in years beyond the first is only possible if places are available (see Transfers) and if the requirements indicated in the admission notice are met.

Unrestrictred degree programmes

To enrol in an unrestrictred degree programmes, students must first register with the Student Career Management System (GCS) and then complete the online application within the established deadlines (see the deadlines calendar).

At the end of the registration process, the online system generates the enrolment fee, which must be paid within the enrolment period as specified in the Study Regulations (consult Fees and contributions)

It is possible to complete the enrolment application online or pay the fee generated by the system even after the deadline, by paying an administrative charge of 100 euros.

Within 5 days of paying the fee, the system assigns the student an identification number (matricola), and within the following 5 days, an institutional email account (with the domain @edu.unifi.it), which must be used for communication with the University and checked regularly. Students holding an entry qualification obtained abroad do not receive the matricola automatically, but must wait for the validation of their documents by the Student Office.

Each student is also issued the Studenti della Toscana card, which grants access to the services available to students.

Students who have been awarded a MAECI scholarship (Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation) and students applying for or holding a residence permit for asylum, subsidiary protection, calamity, or special protection—provided that the permit is valid at the time of enrolment—must, after completing the enrolment process and before paying the fee, submit a request for exemption to the Student Office using the form MOD. IS_05 (available in the Forms webpage), in order to obtain a reduced fee.

Students who meet the requirements for the status of Student Athlete (further information available on the Unifi Include website), before enrolment—specifically before paying the fee—must apply for the status/exemption through the Unifi Include offices, in order to obtain a reduced installment. If the outcome of the application is not received within the enrolment deadlines, the student is required to pay the fees by the due date; in the event of a positive evaluation of the application, the student will receive a refund of the comprehensive contribution

Student with a qualification obtained abroad

Students who hold an academic qualification obtained at foreign universities and wish to request its recognition within a new unrestricted degree programme, after completing online enrolment, must submit to the Student Office an application for career abbreviation (abbreviazione di carriera) (form AB_01 available on the Forms webpage), attaching the required documentation.

Career Abbreviation | Credit transfer/recognition

A student who has previously been enroled in a degree programme but has withdrawn, or a student who is considered lapsed under current regulations, may submit a re‑enrolment application and request a credit transfer/recognition (career abbreviation, abbreviazione di carriera) with recognition of the exams already taken.
