Programme changes and other procedures

Discover all the procedures of the University of Florence for programme changes, transfers between universities, career abbreviations, recognition of foreign qualifications, and management of the academic career (withdrawal, suspension, and reunification  of academic career).

Programme changes

If you want to change your programme of study within the University of Florence without loosing the coursework you have already completed, you must request a transfer. It is possible to transfer from one programme of study to another, provided that the programme is active in the current academic year.

The application can be submitted through the online services according to the deadlines indicated in the calendar. After the deadline, the application will be subject to an additional administrative fee.

With the transfer application, your previously completed exams will be evaluated.

If you wish to transfer to a restricted‑admission degree programme, you must follow the instructions and deadlines specified in the official call for applications, available on the pages for nationally or locally restricted‑admission programmes.

Transfers between universities

If you want to continue your studies at another university without loosing the coursework you have already completed, you must request either an incoming or outgoing transfer.

With the transfer application, your previously completed exams will be evaluated and may be recognized within the new programme of study.

If you wish to transfer to a restricted‑admission degree programme, you must follow the instructions and deadlines specified in the official call for applications.

Career abbreviation

The abbreviation of career allows you to enrol while requesting recognition of exams taken in a previous academic career.

You may request the abbreviation for:

  • An academic degree obtained at Italian universities
  • An academic degree obtained at foreign universities
  • Exams taken in a previous career that was closed due to withdrawal or expiration

Within the online enrolment procedure, you can select the option “career abbreviation” (abbreviazione di carriera) and must attach a specific request for the evaluation of the exams previously completed.

Following enrolment, the academic structure will inform you of any recognition of activities within the new programme of study.

The enrolment application with career abbreviation can be submitted according to the deadlines indicated in the calendar. In addition to tuition fees, a fee of 30 euros is required for the evaluation of exams.

The procedures and deadlines for career abbreviation for admission to years after the first in restricted‑admission programmes are governed by the relevant calls for applications.
