The course is centered on English for Academic Purposes and consists of three modules. The first, year-long (2 hrs per week for 18 weeks), focuses on listening and oral production, the second, also annual (2 hrs per week for 18 weeks), on reading and academic writing. The third is composed of a series of lectures and revolves around the design, production and sourcing of academic communication.

The courses lays the foundations of the range of features, grammatical, lexical, stylistic and pragmatic, of academic discourse at the B2/C1 of the Common Frame.
Competence
The course is designed to bring learners to a solid B2/C1 level in the four communicative skills.

Students are encouraged to develop autonomous learning skills through the controlled use of online resources and cooperative learning abilities through structured group work.

Students are divided into groups to facilitate active participation. Attendance is compulsory (at least 2/3 of lessons) for all students, part-time students included.
Erasmus students must contact their teachers for special arrangements.
Type of Assessment
Assessment procedure - Attendance is compulsory for all students, including part-time students (see Degree Course Regulations).
Learners' progress in the annual modules is assessed continuously and with final exams: a Powerpoint presentation and group research paper. Completion of the lectures module requires students to produce a References list following standard academic conventions.

Students learn to recognize and employ features of oral and written academic discourse. Thanks to a variety of input types and flexible teaching and learning methods students participate in a range of communicative activities characteristic of the academic community. The grammatical, lexical, etc. parameters of the B2/C1 level of the Common Frame are consolidated and extended within the university context.
