The University of Florence has implemented an investment policy aimed at strengthening laboratories and equipment to support research activities of excellence and aimed at supporting innovation, technology transfer and business incubation activities in the region.
This infrastructure strategy is configured as a technological platform at the service of businesses, offering the sharing of technological resources, skills, collaboration and support in the processes of growth, updating and internationalization with a deeply multidisciplinary vocation in line with the National Industry 4.0 Plan. and the PRS 2016-2020, and in particular the Regional Project n.14 (Research, development and innovation), whose objectives include "the qualification and the strengthening of the technology transfer system through support (...) to the infrastructures for the transfer" achievable through "enhancement of research infrastructures and technology transfer within the framework of the Industry Regional Strategy 4.0".

European infrastructure (ESFRI)

This category includes research infrastructures that are part of the ESFRI roadmap which i) have their headquarters or nodes in Italy; ii) are based in other EU countries with Italian participation and contributions in kind by Italian bodies and industries. These infrastructures have operational links with the territory in which they are only located or from which contributions in kind originate and, precisely for this reason, they are linked with intelligent specialization of the territories themselves.

National infrastructures

This category includes national research infrastructures with international projection and research structures with a recognized role in national or international networks. Such entities have strong links with the territory in which they are located and are among the major drivers of the respective smart specialization strategy.
