Founded in 1321, the University of Florence is now one of Italy’s largest institutions for research and higher education. It counts over 1,800 professors and researchers, around 1,600 technical and administrative staff, and more than 1,600 PhD students and research fellows.

The University’s campuses are spread across the city and extend beyond its urban boundaries, with key sites including the scientific campus in Sesto Fiorentino and additional campuses in Empoli and Calenzano. Its academic facilities are organized in 10 Schools and 21 Departments, all committed to advancing internationalisation, cooperation, technological and digital innovation, and sustainable development. Guided by its statutory mission, the University is dedicated to inclusive and forward-thinking education, and to contributing—through research across all disciplines and the application of its outcomes—to the social, cultural, and economic development of the region, the nation, and the global community.
