Studing Italian literary texts of the 13th-16th centuries in order to acquire knowledge of the most representative authors and skills aimed at enabling a

Learning Objectives
This course aims at promoting and deepening the knowledge and understanding of Ludovico Ariosto’s ‘Orlando furioso’ and of Italian Renaissance culture, paying attention first of all to literary culture, but also to its continuous intersections with arts, music, communication (between orality and writing), the publishing industry and other medias.
Knowledge and understanding – General knowledge of the history of Italian literature, particularly between the 14th and 16th centuries; understanding of stylistic and thematic features of the main literary genres of different periods and of their interaction with other non-verbal creative languages; ability to interpret literary texts and their specific ways of creating messages.
Applying knowledge and understanding – Knowledge of how to use academic editions of texts belonging to Italian literary tradition and of bibliographical sources; informed use of tools for commenting on literary text; introduction to bibliographic research in libraries.
Making judgements – Acquiring autonomous critical and analytical skills in the fields of the history and the analysis of Italian literature; fostering intellectual participation and the development of personal critical opinions.
Communication skills – knowledge and use of proper terms of literary history and interpretation of literary texts; ability to paraphrase and comment on literary texts in a clear and engaging manner; ability to argue in a orderly and convincing way.
Learning skills – autonomous use of the tools of documentation, investigation and interpretation relevant to the study of literary texts and of cultural history; ability to apply an analytical model for the study of genres, styles, techniques and themes of the literary tradition; ability to fruitfully interact with educators; civic-minded use and sharing of the educational resources provided by the CdS and by the School.
