Read on UnifiMagazine Eight projects submitted by the University of Florence are among the winners of the Fondo Italiano per la Scienza (FIS 3)- Italian Science Fund -, the call promoted by the Ministry of Universities and Research (MUR) to support the development of fundamental research. The call includes three research macro‑sectors defined by the European Research Council (ERC): Physical Sciences and Engineering – PE (mathematical, physical, chemical, earth and space sciences, engineering and information sciences), Life Sciences – LS (biological, medical and health disciplines), and Social Sciences and Humanities – SH (social, economic, legal, historical, philosophical and linguistic sciences). The eight studies from the University mark an improvement compared to the previous edition of the call, in which six projects were selected. They include two Advanced Grants (with funding of about 3.8 million euros) and six Starting Grants (which will receive nearly 6.5 million euros). In total, funding for the Unifi proposals amounts to more than 10.26 million euros.“The winning Unifi projects confirm the excellence of research at the University of Florence, represented across all three ERC macro‑sectors,” stated rector Alessandra Petrucci. “In particular, two Starting Grants were awarded to young researchers coming from foreign universities, confirming the University of Florence’s strong ability to attract talent.” UnifiMagazine Published on: December 19th, 2025
