Twelve subjects in the top 200 worldwide The University of Florence confirms its place among the world's top universities, according to the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) 2026. Published by ShanghaiRanking Consultancy, the ranking evaluates universities by individual subject and also produces the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU).This year, Unifi features in 24 subjects, ranking among the top 200 universities worldwide in 12 of them. Its highest performance was achieved in Pharmacy, where Florence ranks third in Italy and 45th globally. Agricultural Sciences also recorded a highly positive result, entering the global top 100 in the 76–100 rank range and placing among the top six Italian universities.The University of Florence ranks among the top five Italian universities in 11 subjects. In addition to Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Unifi features in the national top three for Ecology, Biological Sciences and Remote Sensing (placing in the 101–150 rank range globally).Florence also stands out nationally in several other subjects, including Water Resources, Public Health, Biotechnology, Earth Sciences, Chemistry, Environmental Science and Engineering, and Atmospheric Science.The GRAS 2026 evaluated the research performance of around 2,000 universities worldwide across 57 subjects spanning Natural Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences and Social Sciences.The ranking is based on objective indicators measuring high-quality journal output, citation impact, international collaboration and top-tier faculty presence.
