European Charter for Researchers, HRS4R accreditation renewed for Unifi

The European Commission has recognized the University’s working conditions and its commitment to staff stabilization

The University of Florence has obtained the renewal of the Human Resources Strategy for Researchers (HRS4R) accreditation.

The European Commission has given a positive evaluation of the Action Plan submitted by Unifi, which outlines eleven initiatives aimed at achieving the objectives set out in the European Charter for Researchers—endorsed by more than one thousand European institutions—to regulate the rights and duties of research bodies, universities, and researchers at every stage of their careers.

Particular appreciation was expressed for having carried out ‘in‑depth consultations with academic staff, providing meaningful insights into the level of satisfaction regarding the implementation of the Charter’s principles.’

The University was also acknowledged for ‘a strong commitment to staff stability through the increase in tenure‑track positions and initiatives aimed at strengthening awareness of the available support structures.’

Finally, the reviewers noted ‘safe working conditions and the promotion of work–life balance through flexible arrangements and welfare measures.’

The positive assessment by the European Commission confirms the University’s commitment over the past years, reflected in the numerous initiatives included in the Action Plans, such as the promotion—also through dedicated University calls—of access to excellence‑research funding and the raising of awareness on Open Science and Open Access.

“The HRS4R certification,” commented vice‑rector for research Debora Berti, “constitutes further evidence of the University’s commitment to maintaining a stimulating working environment for research activities.”
