Internships

The University of Florence supports your professional development by offering curricular internships — including opportunities abroad — during your degree programme, and non‑curricular internships immediately after graduation.

You can consult the Regolamento generale d’Ateneo per lo svolgimento dei tirocini curriculari e non curriculari (University’s General Regulations on the implementation of curricular and non‑curricular internship)s in the “Statute and Regulations” section.

Curricular internship

A curricular internship is a hands‑on learning experience carried out during your degree programme. It allows you to apply what you study, develop professional skills, and earn the ECTS credits required by your study plan.

The entire activation procedure is digital and managed through the St@ge online platform.

If you are a student:

  1. before starting your internship, make sure you have completed the mandatory general training course on workplace health and safety (see the section below for details about this course);
  2. access the St@ge online platform to identify the host organisation where you will carry out your internship. Curricular internships must take place at accredited host organisations that have signed an agreement with the University.
  3. to begin the activation procedure, contact the Internship Service of your School.

Curricular internships must take place at accredited host organisations that have signed an agreement with the University of Florence. To enter into the agreement, the host organisation must:

  1. access the St@ge online platform and complete the registration process;
  2. once logged in, click on Inserite una nuova richiesta di convenzione aziendale (“Enter a new company agreement request”" and fill in the online form;
  3. wait to receive by email the documentation required to finalise the agreement;
  4. sign the Agreement (Convenzione) for the activation of curricular training and orientation internships received by email and send it via certified email (PEC), together with any additional requested documents, to tirocini(AT)pec.unifi.it;
  5. wait for confirmation of the agreement’s activation and for the countersigned copy;
  6. once the agreement for curricular internships has been activated, contact the Internship Service of the School to which the intern belongs in order to start the internship.

The agreement procedure (full instructions are provided in Annex B) is managed by the Settore Diritto allo Studio e Servizi agli Studenti (Student Support and Services Unit).
Email: tirocini.curriculari(AT)unifi.it
Telephone: 055 2757 286–287–288 (Monday and Wednesday, 9.30–11.30)

The safety training course is mandatory before you begin: to start your internship, you must have completed and passed the Corso di formazione generale di base sulla sicurezza nei luoghi di lavoro (Basic General Training Course on workplace health and safety).

The course is fully online (e‑learning) and lasts only four hours.

Without the course certificate, the platform will not allow you to activate your internship.

Guidance in the event of an accident

The host organisation and the intern must promptly report any accident occurring during the internship to the University of Florence by sending an email to segnalazione.infortuni(AT)unifi.it, copying the university tutor. This ensures that the mandatory reports are submitted within the time limits set by current legislation.

Non‑curricular internship

Have you already completed your studies? A non‑curricular internship is an opportunity designed to help you take your first steps into the world of work immediately after graduation.

Here are the main rules you need to know:

  • you may activate it if you obtained your university degree no more than 24 months ago;
  • the University of Florence activates non‑curricular internships only for graduates of the University of Florence and exclusively for internships carried out within the Tuscany Region (Delibera del Senato Accademico - Academic Senate Resolution of 25 June 2019);
  • if you intend to carry out your internship in an organisation located outside Tuscany, you cannot do so through the University of Florence: you must contact the Employment Centres (Centri per l'impiego) responsible for the area where the internship will take place;
  • under Tuscan regional legislation, the host organisation must provide the intern with a mandatory monthly allowance of no less than 600 euro gross.

To activate a non‑curricular internship, the host organisation must have already identified the candidate. It is necessary to define the required skills, abilities and objectives in line with the profile set out in the Atlante del Lavoro of the Regional Register of Professions.

To start the activation procedure, write to: tirocini.noncurriculari(AT)adm.unifi.it;

The activation process and internship management are fully digital and carried out through the Toscana Tirocini platform.

Internship Abroad

The University of Florence also promotes curricular internships outside Italy.

Internships are subject to the principle of territoriality: their activation and implementation are governed by the national legislation of the country in which they take place.

To activate a curricular internship abroad, contact the Internship Services of the School to which the intern belongs.
