a. Academic Qualification Admission to the Master’s Degree Programme in Physical and Astrophysical Sciences (LM-17 Class of Master’s Degrees) is open to candidates who hold: • a Bachelor’s Degree in Class L-30 (Physical Sciences and Technologies) under Ministerial Decree 270/04, or • a Bachelor’s Degree in Class 20 (Physical Sciences and Technologies) under Ministerial Decree 509/99, provided that they meet the minimum curricular requirements for admission. These requirements are automatically fulfilled by holders of the Bachelor’s Degree in Physics and Astrophysics (Class L-30, DM 270/04) awarded by the University of Florence. Admission is also open to candidates who: • have acquired a solid basic scientific knowledge in the mathematical and chemical disciplines, together with adequate preparation in the various areas of physics; and • hold another three-year university degree or diploma, or an equivalent qualification obtained abroad and recognised as suitable by the competent teaching body for the purpose of admission to the Master’s Degree. b. Curricular Requirements To be admitted to the Master’s Degree Programme in Physical and Astrophysical Sciences (LM-17 Class), applicants must have achieved at least: • 50 ECTS credits in FIS/* subject areas, or in courses belonging to other scientific-disciplinary areas whose content is deemed compatible with FIS/*; • 20 ECTS credits in MAT/* subject areas, or in courses belonging to other scientific-disciplinary areas whose content is deemed compatible with MAT/*. c. Adequate Personal Preparation Verification of adequate personal preparation will be carried out on the basis of academic records and, if necessary, by interview. Admission to the Master’s Degree — both for holders of an Italian qualification and for holders of a foreign qualification who are legally resident in Italy — is conditional upon possession of the following knowledge: 1. General knowledge of basic mathematics (mathematical analysis, geometry); 2. General knowledge of basic physics (classical physics: mechanics, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, electromagnetism; classical physics laboratory, including data acquisition and processing); 3. General knowledge of theoretical and mathematical physics (mathematical methods for physics, analytical mechanics, special relativity, quantum mechanics); 4. Good written and spoken knowledge of English at least equivalent to CEFR level B1. Any interview will be conducted by a committee composed of lecturers from the Teaching Committee or appointed by the Degree Programme Board.
