Pre‑enrolment and study‑visa application

If you are a non‑EU student residing abroad and intend to enrol at the University of Florence, you must obtain a type‑D study/enrolment visa.

The issuance of the study/enrolment visa is the exclusive responsibility of Italian embassies and consulates abroad, not of the University.

Validation of the pre‑enrolment application and study‑visa does not guarantee:

  • obtaining an appointment at the embassy or consulate;
  • the issuance of the visa.

Register and submit your pre‑enrolment application on the Universitaly portal.

When

  • Unrestricted programmes: by 31 July;
  • Programmes with restricted access: check the specific admission call.

Required documents

  • passport‑style photograph;
  • valid passport;
  • upper‑secondary school diploma in the original language;
  • B2‑level Italian language certificate (if the programme is taught in Italian);
  • English‑language certificate (if the programme is taught in English).

For the University of Florence, documents issued in English, French, or Spanish do not require an official translation into Italian. In all other cases, an official translation is mandatory.

As soon as you receive the summary of your application, book an appointment with the Italian Embassy or Consulate abroad to submit your visa application.

If you hold a foreign academic qualification and intend to enrol in an unrescricted second cycle (master’s) degree programme at the University of Florence, you must request an Admission Document from the programme you are interested in.

After receiving the Admission Document or admission to single courses, register and submit your pre‑enrolment application on the Universitaly portal by:

  • 31 July if you have the Admission Document;
  • 31 December if you have been admitted to Single Courses.

Required documents

For the University of Florence, documents issued in English, French, or Spanish do not require an official translation into Italian. In all other cases, an official translation is mandatory.

  • passport‑style photograph;
  • valid passport;
  • first cycle (bachelor’s) degree diploma in the original language;
  • Transcript of Records in the original language;
  • Admission Document or admission to single courses;
  • B2‑level Italian language certificate (if the programme is taught in Italian);
  • English‑language certificate (if the programme is taught in English).
