National Recovery and Resilience Plan - PNRR

The PNRR is structured around six Missions, representing thematic areas aligned with the core pillars of NextGenerationEU:

• Mission 1: Digitalisation, innovation, competitiveness and culture
• Mission 2: Green revolution and ecological transition
• Mission 3: Infrastructure for sustainable mobility
• Mission 4: Education and research
• Mission 5: Inclusion and cohesion
• Mission 6: Health

Each Mission is subdivided into Components, which define specific areas of intervention. While a Mission sets the overarching objective, a Component outlines the action plan to achieve it.

Within each Component, actions consist of:

• Reforms: legislative changes necessary to enhance systemic efficiency
• Investments: practical projects directly funded by the Plan

Objective delivery is tracked via:

• Milestones: qualitative benchmarks to be achieved through reforms and investments
• Targets: quantitative outcomes measured by specific, verifiable indicators

• NBFC-CN5 | Monitoring and protecting natural capital Implementing advanced monitoring and biodiversity conservation systems across terrestrial, marine and coastal ecosystems.
• Agritech-CN2 | Technologies for future agriculture Implementing technological solutions for sustainable agriculture that is resilient to climate variables.
• ITINERIS | Italian integrated environmental research infrastructure system Establishing an integrated system of research infrastructures across Italy dedicated to environmental scientific research.

• CHANGES-PE5 | Cultural heritage innovation and resilience Developing advanced and sustainable methodologies for analysing, protecting and enhancing cultural assets.
• MICS-PE11 | Industrial supply chain sustainability Transitioning towards circular and sustainable production models for "Made in Italy" excellence.
• MOST-CN4 | Integrated and sustainable mobility systems A technological innovation programme applied to the transport sector.
• MUSEI | Measures to improve accessibility at the Geology and Palaeontology Museum of the University of Florence Enhancing accessibility to museum collections by removing physical, sensory and cognitive barriers.
• VILLA LA QUIETE | Programmes to enhance place identity: historic parks and gardens Permanent reopening and repurposing of the historic garden, previously inaccessible to the public.
• IDEATES | Integrated Analysis of Economic, Technological and Social factors for the Energy efficiency of the housing and vehicle Stock Supporting the assessment of private mobility in terms of efficiency, external pollution costs and options for alternative modal choices.

• NQSTI-PE4 | Quantum technology development Advancing research in quantum science and technology across the entire innovation pipeline.
• SERICS-PE7 | Security and rights in cyberspace Implementing cybersecurity architectures and protocols.
• ICSC-CN1 | High-performance computing and Big Data Strengthening the national network for monitoring and managing large volumes of data using High-Performance Computing (HPC) and Quantum Computing infrastructures.
• RESTART-PE14 | Evolution of networks and telecommunications A strategic research and innovation programme to define future telecommunications systems.
• SUPERMOL | Exploring non-conventional superconductors for energy applications by molecular magnets Exploring new non-conventional superconducting materials through the use of magnetic molecules.
• CAI4DSA | Collaborative Explainable neuro-symbolic AI for Decision Support Assistant Using artificial intelligence to develop Decision Support Systems (DSS) capable of evolving through human-to-human and human-AI collaboration.
• MAPLE | Mathematical and Physical approaches to innovative Machine Learning Technologies Enhancing the understanding of fundamental aspects related to machine learning and neural networks.

• THE-ECS17 | Innovation in life sciences Promoting an integrated innovation ecosystem for translational research and industrial development in life sciences.
• AGE-IT - PE8 | Multidimensional strategies for ageing Scientific coordination (lead institution) of an interdisciplinary programme aimed at analysing population ageing processes.
• RNA-CN3 | Biopharmaceuticals and advanced therapies Strengthening the national supply chain for the development of drugs and gene therapies based on RNA technology.
• MNESYS-PE12 | Neurosciences and neurotechnologies World-class research on the nervous system through an integrated multi-scale approach.
• EBRAINS-ITALY | European Brain ReseArch INfrastructureS-Italy Establishing a nationwide network of research groups across Italy with cross-disciplinary expertise in developing computational models in neuroscience.
• SEE-LIFE | StrEnghthEning the ItaLIan InFrastructure of Euro-bioimaging Strengthening the Italian network of Euro-BioImaging ERIC (EuBI-ITA), the ESFRI-recognised European research infrastructure dedicated to biological and biomedical imaging.
• ITACA.SB | Potentiating the ITAlian CApacity of Structural Biology Services in Instruct-ERIC Enhancing structural biology services offered by the Italian Instruct-ERIC centre.
• PERFETTO | Life Science TTO Network Promoting a national culture of technology transfer within the life sciences sector.
• Fit4Med | Fit for Medical Robotics Improving the efficacy and accessibility of rehabilitation processes using biorobotics.
• GelReady | Development of an innovative device for the mechanical characterisation of soft biomaterials for industrial applications Developing a low-cost, user-friendly prototype for characterising soft hydrogels used in the healthcare and food sectors.
• SIS-NET | Severe Infections and Sepsis clinical NEtwork for identification of clinical and diagnostic Markers, immunological monitoring and “Target and tailored” therapies for adults, children and patients admitted to intensive care units Creating a nationwide database to facilitate information exchange, analysis, and monitoring of infectious diseases and sepsis in intensive care patients.
