The Marco Polo project is an agreement between the Italian and Chinese governments that aims to make it easier for Chinese students to be admitted to Italian universities. It is open to Chinese students wishing to attend an Italian language course lasting at least 10 months prior to enroling at an Italian university.

Students must pass an Italian language exam at B1 level or above on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Upon completion of the course and passing the language exam, students can enrol at university by following the instructions for non-EU students residing abroad who hold a foreign qualification.

Follow the standard procedure if you are resident in: Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Switzerland or the Republic of San Marino; or if you are serving in foreign diplomatic missions and international organisations based in Italy and accredited to the Italian State or the Holy See, with your spouse and children.
