Change your degree programme

If you are already enroled at the University of Florence and wish to transfer to another degree programme within the University, you can submit a programme transfer request.

What happens to the exams you have already taken?

• the new degree programme will evaluate them;
• some exams or credits may be recognised;
• additional learning requirements may be assigned.

After completing the transfer, you cannot return to your previous programme before one academic year has passed, unless there are serious reasons.

Procedures vary depending on the type of programme (unrestricted-access or restricted‑access), the admission year, and the availability of places.

To transfer to a first (bachelor’s) degree or a single‑cycle degree programme, before submitting your request you must:

1. check on the School’s website and in the programme regulations whether an initial knowledge assessment test is required;
2. if such a test is required, you will need to take it;
3. check any additional requirement set by the programme.

You may also transfer from a second (master’s) degree programme to a first (bachelor’s) or single‑cycle master’s degree programme.

To transfer to a second (master’s) degree programme, you must first request an assessment from the programme’s academic body in order to obtain clearance (nulla osta, the authorisation that allows the transfer to the new second (master’s) degree programme).

If the assessment identifies an academic deficiency, you cannot complete the transfer until you obtain the required credits within the established deadlines.

Restricted‑access degree programmes have a limited number of available places. To complete the transfer, you must follow specific procedures and deadlines, which vary depending on the admission year.

To transfer to the first year, you must:

• take part in the selection procedure required by the programme;
• sit any admission test that may be required;
• follow the procedures and deadlines set out in the admission call.

To transfer to years after the first, you must:

• consult the admission calls to check access procedures, the number of available places, and the evaluation criteria;
• consult the admission calls for nationally or locally restricted‑access programmes for years after the first.

You can submit your application through the GCS portal within the deadlines indicated in the calendar.

Applications submitted after the deadline are subject to an additional fee.
