Enrolling with previously completed exams

Have you already attended a university, obtained a degree or completed exams that you would like to have recognised in your new study programme? In some cases, you may request a shortened academic path (abbreviazione di carriera), that is, the recognition of exams or credits you have already earned so that you do not have to repeat learning activities you have already completed.

You may request a shortened academic path if:

  • you have obtained an academic degree from an Italian university;
  • you have obtained an academic degree from a foreign university;
  • you have completed exams in a previous academic record that was closed due to withdrawal or loss of student status.

Once you submit your request, the degree programme will assess the exams you have completed and:

  • some credits may be recognised;
  • you may be admitted to a year beyond the first; additional requirements or supplementary activities may be assigned.

You can request recognition of the exams you have already completed during the enrolment procedure. Follow the steps outlined below.

Do you wish to enrol in an unrestricted‑access degree programme?

The request for a shortened academic path must be submitted during the online enrolment procedure through the GCS portal.

During the procedure you will be able to:

  • complete the online enrolment application;
  • upload the shortened academic path request form (MOD. AB_01), available on the Student Forms webpage;
  • pay the enrolment fee and the 30 euro charge for the academic record assessment.

Once your application has been finalised, you will receive the outcome of the assessment by email, and any recognised exams or credits will be added to your new academic record. The assessment is usually communicated within approximately 30 days.

Do you wish to enrol in a restricted‑access degree programme?

To request a shortened academic path in a restricted‑access programme, you must:

  • take part in the selection process required by the programme;
  • sit the admission test;
  • follow the procedures and deadlines indicated in the admission notice.

If you do not pass the admission test, you cannot complete the enrolment.

Check the list of degree programmes to see whether the one you are interested in is unrestricted‑access or restricted‑access, and follow the corresponding enrolment procedure.

You can request recognition of your degree or of the exams you have completed by uploading the required documentation.
