Enrol as a part‑time student

If you are unable to follow a full‑time university programme, you may apply for part‑time enrolment.  This option allows you to reduce your study load and tuition fees, helping you better balance work, family or other commitments.

You may request part‑time enrolment if you are enroled in a degree programme and meet the “regularity in studies” requirement for tuition fee calculation, as indicated in the Manifesto degli Studi.

Different requirements apply depending on the type of programme.

Who can apply for part‑time status

If you are enroled in an unrestricted-access programme, you may request part‑time status for the following reasons:

  • work‑related
  • family‑related
  • health‑related
  • care and assistance responsibilities for family members

If you are enroled in a restricted‑access programme, you may request part‑time status only in specific situations, providing documentation that certifies your circumstances — for example, if you are:

  • working student
  • responsible for the care of non‑self‑sufficient family members
  • student with health issues or a disability
  • pregnant student
  • parent of children up to 5 years old
  • student with specific learning disorders (SLD)
  • national or international high‑level athlete

Please note, you cannot apply for part‑time status if, in the same academic year, you intend to:

  • take part in international mobility programmes (e.g. Erasmus)
  • carry out 150‑hour part‑time collaborations
  • request a suspension of your academic career

Types of part‑time status

You can choose between two types of part‑time status:

  • 50% part‑time, requiring a maximum commitment of 30 ECTS per academic year
  • 75% part‑time, requiring a maximum commitment of 45 ECTS per academic year

You may exceed these limits only to obtain the credits for the final degree examination.

How fees are calculated

The all‑inclusive contribution is reduced in proportion to the chosen regime:

  • 50%: you pay 50% of the all‑inclusive contribution
  • 75%: you pay 75% of the all‑inclusive contribution

When and how to apply for part‑time status

You can submit your application through the GCS portal:

  • at the time of enrolment;
  • before renewing your enrolment;
  • by 31 December each year.

Please note: for restricted‑access programmes, check the deadline indicated in the call for applications and in the programme’s academic regulations.

What happens in subsequent years

Part‑time status is automatically maintained in subsequent years, unless you withdraw from it or no longer meet the required conditions.

During your university studies you can still:

  • change the selected regime, moving from 50% to 75% or vice versa;
  • return to full‑time status;
  • request a change from full‑time to part‑time status.

If you change your degree programme, your part‑time status may be maintained, provided it is compatible with the new programme.

 Requests must be submitted within the deadlines set by the University.

What happens if you lose the required conditions

If you no longer meet the required conditions, the University may revoke your part‑time status. In this case:

  • you automatically return to full‑time status;
  • you may submit a new application the following year, if you once again meet the necessary requirements.
