Public engagement consists of a set of non-profit activities with educational, cultural and developmental value for society through which the University communicates and shares the benefits of education and the outcome of research.
The University of Florence regularly promotes public engagement initiatives throughout the year with the aim of creating new relations with the territory and the community, within the frame of the so-called 'third mission'.

Encounters with the Town

The University of Florence in view of promoting and strengthening the connection with the territory, organises a cycle of public lectures where academics and researchers talk over current topics within their specific field of expertise.
The lectures are held in Italian once a month on Sundays at 10.30 am in the "Aula Magna" of the Main Administration Building in piazza San Marco, 4. The initiative is now at its fourth edition.

The encounters are promoted by Menarini International Foundation, with the support of Florence City Council and Unicoop Firenze.

ScienzEstate (Summer Science)

A week dedicated to scientific dissemination with a special focus on children and families. It entails activities and Lab sessions at the Science Campus in Sesto Fiorentino. The event is carried out by OpenLab, a scientific dissemination service of the University and it takes place every year at the beginning of June.
