Transferring to another university

Before transferring to a programme at the University of Florence, a student from another institution must first check the terms and conditions set by their home university

The University of Florence accepts documentation from the student’s home university until December (consult the Calendar of key deadlines).

  • A) First or Single cycle degree programme with unrestrictred access
Consult the Unifi School website and the Regulations of the selected programme to determine whether and how an entrance knowledge test must be taken.

  • B) Second  cycle degree programme with unrestrictred access
Submit an application for assessment to obtain clearance (nulla osta) for transfer to the chosen degree programme (see the Enrolment in Second Cycle Degrees webpage). If the academic structure identifies an educational debt, the transfer cannot be authorized: the student must first earn the credits required to resolve the debt and then re‑submit an application for assessment within the deadline in order to complete the transfer.

  • C) Restricted access programme - first year
Pass the admission test and apply for clearance (nulla osta) by following the instructions on the national or local restricted access programme.

  • D) Restricted access programme - years subsequent to the first
The procedures and deadlines are governed by the calls for admission published on the page Degree Courses for Subsequent Years with National and Local Planning issued by the Schools by the month of July. Consult the Guidelines and the Technical note.

Method of presentation of the transfer application

Students wishing to transfer to courses at the University of Florence (points A, B) must first submit an application for outgoing transfer to their home university. They must then register with the University of Florence’s online services and complete the online transfer application, paying the fees generated at the end of the procedure. Only once the release authorization from the home university has been received will the student be contacted by email from the Student Secretariat for the assignment of the matriculation number.

The online procedure is available from July to November (see the deadlines calendar) for students enroled in First, Single or Second cycle degree. The procedure remains accessible after the deadlines, until December; however, in this case the student must pay an administrative fee of 100 euros.

Students wishing to transfer to the study programmes of the University of Florence indicated in points C and D must follow the instructions on the Tests and how to access courses webpage.

No payments made to the student’s home university will be recognized, except for the regional fee for the right to university education paid by students of Tuscan universities as a contribution to the Region.

A transferred student may not return to their home university before one academic year has passed since the transfer (except for serious reasons). Under no circumstances will the administrative fee be refunded.

For all incoming transfers, in addition to the payment of ordinary tuition fees, an administrative charge of 30 euros is required for the processing of the application and the evaluation of the student’s academic record.

A student at the University of Florence who intend to transfer to a programme at another university must first find out the transferring terms and conditions established by the university to which he/she intends to transfer.

The student must submit the application on Student Career Management from September to November (consult deadline) and pay the fees issued in the online procedure of 116 euros (16 euros stamp and 100 euros administrative fee).

The student who apply online after December deadline have to pay an additional administrative fee of 100 euro.

Student who has not carried out any career activity in the current academic year (exams, internships, documentation requests, etc.) and has submitted transfer application by December, the University of Florence automatically refunds the contributions and regional fee paid with the first instalment of university fees.

Transferring after December is possible for students who passed a restricted access programme test at another university. Refunds of paid fees for the current academic year will only be allowed in case of no career activity.

Trasferred students are not allowed to return to the University of Florence prior to one academic year after transfer (with the exception of restricted access programmes).
