Plant chemical ecology. Biochemistry of plant adaptation to the environment.
qualification aimed to the knowledge of the relationships between environment and plant organisms, studying their metabolic responses and adaptation capabilities
Skills acquired (at the end of the course):
skills of understanding the environment conditions from the biochemical responses showed by the plant organisms.
The teaching activity will be carried out by class lectures.
Modalità di verifica apprendimento
Final oral examination
Programma del corso
Chemical ecology: relationship between secondary metabolite production and adaptation to environmental changes. Main plant biosynthetic pathways. Shikimic acid, mevalonic acid and non protein amino acids. Principal classes of plant compounds: glucosinolates, phenols, alkaloids, terpenes. Principal secondary metabolites used in pharmacology.
