KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:
• Knowledge of the purpose and terminology of analytical chemistry
• Knowledge of the theoretical bases for carrying out common calculations in an analytical laboratory (concentrations, buffer systems, titration curves)
• Knowledge of the theoretical features of the analytical techniques dealt with in the course (gravimetric, volumetric, instrumental)
• Knowledge of the main statistical techniques useful for analytical purposes (calibration, confidence interval, significance tests)
• Knowledge of the international guidelines to be followed for the validation of analytical methods

Type of Assessment
1) The exam consists of overcoming an oral exam that spans the entire program. The oral examination may be held during any exam session, which is listed on the page: http://sol.unifi.it/prenot/prenot
Each test is overcome if a vote of more than or equal to 18 is reported.
2) During the course, held in the first semester, three written tests will be held to verify the degree of preparation of the students on the subjects covered during the course. Attendance is reserved for students who are attending the course. Intermediate trials consist of 10-12 exercises and open questions concerning the theoretical aspects of the course, to be conducted within a two-hour period. The sufficiency on all the tests, that is, the passing of each intermediate test with a vote of more than or equal to 18, allows the average vote to be verbalized without supporting any oral exam. Failure in one of the three tests can be recovered in a special recovery test at the beginning of January. Final failure in one, two or three tests involves canceling all tests and the need to support the oral exam.
The exam aims to verify:
the ability to properly use the terminology of analytical chemistry;
the ability to perform common calculations in an analytical laboratory (concentrations, buffer systems);
knowledge of the analytical techniques dealt with in the course;
the ability to apply statistical techniques for analytical purposes (calibration, confidence intervals, significance tests);
knowledge of the international guidelines to be followed for the validation of analytical methods.
Introduction: analytical process, measurements, experimental error, chemical equilibria and activity, analytical methods. Methods based on chemical reactions: gravimetric analysis, acid-base equilibria, acid-base titrations, complexometric titration, precipitation titration, electrochemistry, redox titrations. Instrumental methods: potentiometry, capillary electrophoreis. Analytical Quality: quality control e quality Assurance, validation of an analytical procedure.
