The purpose of this course is to give students legal instruments to understand the functioning of the international community in a legal perspective.
Prerequisites
Students who wish to attend the course of Human rights and armed conflicts and Diritto internazionale e sfide globali and sit the latter exams are strongly recommended to attend the course of International law during the first semester.
Teaching Methods
Online Lectures.

Each lecture will seek to reply to an event occurred in the international relations from the international law point of view. To this end the lecture will introduce and explore thoroughly the general regulation before illustrating the specific normative framework applicable to the case at hand.
Type of Assessment
InSeptember 2021 the exams will take place by the GMeet platform in an oral way.
Students will receive an e-mail containing the link for the connection to the exam few days before it.
Course program
The course is divided into two parts.
During the first part focus will be on the following topics:
- origins and the main current features of the international community;
- subjects of international law;
- sources of international law;
- relationship between international law and internal laws of States;
The second part will be devoted to the following topics:
- use of force
- mechanisms for peaceful settlement of disputes
- international responsibility of States.
