The aim of the course is to present the basic theory of monopoly, oligopoly and asymmetric information in a formally rigorous framework.
Prerequisiti
Basic Probability Theory, Constrained Optimization with Functions of Several Variables. Content of the course of Game Theory and Microeconomics.

Final written examination (two hours and a half) followed by a short oral exam. A mid-term exam will be held that will enable students to split the exam in two parts.

Monopoly: Basic theory. Price discrimination. Regulation of a natural monopoly. Oligopoly: Cournot and Bertrand competition.
Asymmetric information and market failures. Adverse selection. Signalling. Screening. Principal- agent models with i) hidden action ii) hidden information. Discussion and applications of the principal-agent model.
