It’s necessary to study the 1983 Code of Canon Law and the main documents of pontifical teaching discussed in class or mentioned in the suggested readings.

Learning Objectives
The course aims to offer the students basic information on the fundamental topics of Canon Law as “Religious Law” and on its special aspects in regard to State Laws.

Further information
In order to attend the course students shall subscribe to the Moodle Platform by the first week of lessons. The attendance of the registered students will be verified by the signatures. Students enrolled in the course are required to notify the teacher before the beginning of each lesson if they are absent writing an e-mail with the subject: "Justification". A maximum of 3 justifications will be allowed.
Type of Assessment
Oral exam.
To pass the exam it’s necessary to be able to discuss the didactic materials; to be able to critical analyze the texts; to argue with canon law language.
Course program
The course aims to contribute to the formation of legal students’culture through the analysis of the main characteristics of Canon Law. After studying the Canon Law's history, the first part of the course will examine the sources’system and the role of the “Law” in the Church with a focus on the Latin Catholic Church’s Law. The second part of the course, before studying the II Vatican Council as a fundamental event for the Catholic Church's history, will focus the attention on the definition of "Populo Dei", on the Constitutional structure of the Church, both the Universal Church and the Particular Churches, and on the current challenges for the Catholic Church.
