Course Content
The course deals with a few topics in the economic theory of the firm. Basic course content: 1) elements of the theory of the firm and organizations, 2) the nature and motivations of the entrepreneur, 3) incentives and the firm’s internal organization.

Learning Objectives
KNOWLEDGE:
The course’s general aim is to provide students with basic knowledge about the nature and functions of the enterprise. Specific aims: understanding the economic environment in which the firm operates and its basic functions in the economy and in society; understanding the institutional diversity that characterizes modern economies: why do various forms of enterprise coexist in the market? Why is the entrepreneur sometimes driven by motives other than those that the man in the street generally attributes to him?
SKILLS:
Ability to judge the role of a firm in the market and of the organization within the firm. Ability to deal with a variety of enterprise forms. Capabilities acquired at the end of the course: to view organizational issues in their relations with the socio-economic context.
Prerequisites
It is advisable for students to clear the basic Microeconomics exam before taking the course.
Teaching Methods
Lectures and seminars. Total lecture hours: 48.

Type of Assessment
Exams are held on official dates set by the Scuola di Economia e Management. The exam is written with two open-ended questions on the course topics. Duration of the test: one hour. Weight: 100% of the vote.
