The course has been designed to acquaint the student with basic theory of design and analysis of experiments.
Prerequisites
Elements of descriptive and inferencial statistics, are required. Statistical models is suggested.

Type of Assessment
The assessment consists of a written test and an oral test. The written one relates on design of experiment part, the oral on differences between observational and experimental studies, clinical trials, randomization and longitudinal data analysis. These tests are aimed at verifying: 1) the knowledge acquired regarding the concepts, models and tools that have been the subject of the course; 2) the following skills developed by the student: ability to apply the acquired knowledge, ability to draw conclusions, communication skills and use of appropriate language, and ability to understand and learning.

Introduction to design and analysis of experiments (strategy of experimentation, some typical applications, basic principles as randomization and balance).
Simple comparative experiments (difference in means randomized or paired comparison designs).
Experiments with a single factor (the analysis of variance and the regression approach to the analysis of variance).
Randomized Blocks designs(randomized complete block and balanced incomplete block designs).
Latin squares designs (Latin Square and Graeco-Latin Square designs).
Introduction to factorial designs (two-factor factorial design). Nested Design. Random effects models.
Clinical Trials. Observational and experimental studies (cohort and case-control studies) Longitudinal data.
