The aim of this course is to provide students with tools to analyse – in an integrated manner – environmental, economic and social issues related to the tourism development in developed and developing countries at both micro and macro levels. This course will enable students to systematically analyse environmental issues and to cooperate in the planning and decision making process implied by the sustainable development of tourism in private and public companies
The course will focus on the geo-economic, environmental and
social impacts of tourism. At the conclusion of the course, all students
should be able to:
1. Understand and describe spatial patterns of tourism.
2. Understand the relations between Tourism, sustainability and
environmental change.
3. Be aware of several case studies about the impact of tourism at regional and global level
Prerequisiti
The main prerequisites for the course are: fundamental knowledge of the organization at various geopolitical scales (region, country); ability to describe in proper technical language the main economic and geographic phenomena; knowledge of the characteristics of and the fundamental components of economic-territorial organizations (tourism, accomodation, hospitality). Ideally students should have completed at least one exam in economics and one exam in economic geography of tourism.
Metodi Didattici
Classes will be held in form of traditional lectures. Handouts and other materials will be distributed in class.
As much as possible, it will be ask to the students an active partecipation, with discussion in small group.
All students will be asked to prepare a small research on a topic and a presentation in the classroom within a small group of students.
It is possible to have in class some guest speakers from Italy or abroad.

The student assessment derives from
80%: written exam
20%: personal project on a topic selected by the student.
Exam (80%): the exam will be written and it will be at the end of the course. No midterm exam are scheduled during the quarter. The written exam will be both with multiple choises (21 questions) and open questions (3 questions). Every right answer is 1,5 points, every wrong answer -0,5.
Personal project (20%): for the personal project every student needs to spend al least 20 hours. Possible topics include all those faced during the course that the student wants to study in depth. The topic of the personal project needs to be accepted by the professor.
