Laurea nel 1997 in “Scienze Agrarie Tropicali e Subtropicali presso l’Università di Firenze. Dottore di ricerca nel 2001 in “Microbiologia degli alimenti” presso l’Università di Firenze con una tesi dal titolo “Nannochloropsis: composizione biochimica, coltura massiva ed uso in acquacoltura”. Dal 2001 al 2010 collaborazione come assegnista di ricerca e borsista con il Dipartimento di Biotecnologie Agrarie dell’Università di Firenze per condurre ricerche sulla coltura massiva di microalghe per l’ottenimento di acidi grassi, pigmenti, molecole bioattive e mangimi per l’acquacoltura e sullo sviluppo e caratterizzazione di fotobioreattori. Dal 2010 ricercatore presso l’Università di Firenze (Dipartimento di Scienze delle Produzioni Agro-alimentari e dell’Ambiente), settore “Microbiologia agraria”. Docente di “Microbiologia forestale” presso l’Università di Palermo e di “Laboratorio di microbiologia”, “Microbiologia industriale”, “Biomasse acquatiche”, “Microbiologia agraria topicale” “Microbiologia ambientale ed applicata” e “Energia e biomateriale da processi microbici” presso l’Università di Firenze. Responsabile di unità di ricerca nei progetti FP7 BIOFAT, FUEL4ME e SPLASH e nel progetto H2020 NOMORFILM. Dal 2005 al 2011 e dal 2017 per il successivo triennio membro del comitato esecutivo dell’ISAP (International Society for Applied Phycology), e dal 2009 membro del comitato industriale di EABA (European Algae Biomass Association). Co-fondatore e Presidente di Fotosintetica & Microbiologica S.r.l., spin-off dell’Università di Firenze.Membro del Comitato Scientifico dell’“European Roadmap for an Algae-based Industry” (Olhao, Portugal, 6-8 April 2016), e membro del Comitato Organizzatore del “1st EABA and EC Algae Contractors’ Conference” (Florence, Italy, 1-3 December 2014) e di “AlgaEurope” dal 2015 al 2018. Co-autore di oltre 30 pubblicazioni scientifiche (articoli su rivista e capitoli di libri), due brevetti e letture ad invito a conferenze internazionali sulla coltura delle microalghe e sulle loro applicazioni.

PhD in 2001 in Food Biotechnology at the University of Florence with a thesis on “Nannochloropsis: biochemical characterization, mass cultivation and use in aquaculture”. From 2001 to 2010 continuous collaboration through fellowships and contracts with the Department of Agriculture Biotechnology of the University of Florence to conduct researches on microalgal mass cultivation for fatty acids, pigments, antibiotic production, and aquaculture feeds, and on photobioreactor design and performances. Since 2010 researcher at the University of Florence (Department of Agrifood Production and Environmental Sciences). Lecturer of “Forest Microbiology” (University of Palermo) and of “Microbiological Techniques”, “Industrial Microbiology” “Aquatic Biomasses”, “Tropical Agriculture Microbiology” “Environmental and Applied Microbiology” and “Energy and Biomaterials from Microbial Processes” (University of Florence). Responsible of research units in the FP7 projects BIOFAT, FUEL4ME and SPLASH and in the H2020 project NOMORFILM. From 2005 to 2011 and from 2017 for the following triennium member of the Executive Committee of the ISAP (International Society for Applied Phycology), and since 2009 member of the Industrial Committee of the EABA (European Algae Biomass Association). Co-founder and President of Fotosintetica & Microbiologica S.r.l., spin-off company of the University of Florence. Co-author of more than 30 scientific papers (journal articles and book chapters), two patents, and invited speaker at international conferences on algae cultivation and applications.
