The activity of promoting financing and planning opportunities concerns all directly managed European funds, such as Horizon 2020, Erasmus plus and Creative Europe; thematic programs such as Life, Justice, Chafea, but also the so-called mixed funds, as jointly managed by the national authorities and the European Commission (such as ERANET, JPI, JTI). In 2008 the Office obtained quality certification for all the services offered according to the international standards UNI EN ISO 9001: 2008.
The Office, upon request, offers professors and researchers of the University of Florence an information service focused on available funding opportunities. The information provided by the interested scholar makes it possible to identify the types of financing most relevant to the field of activity or to the researcher's idea of a project and the combination of research interests with the opportunities available. Researchers can benefit from e-mail reports on financing opportunities, sending confidential advances on forthcoming calls and preliminary studies of identified calls.
Once the researcher decides to participate in a call for tenders, the staff provides support to prepare the project proposal. This consists in the complete and in-depth study of the call for applications, the verification of the correspondence between the project idea and the objectives of the call, support to the creation of the international partnership (in the coordinated projects), keying in the administrative data in the IT applications used by the funding program (Participant Portal, PRIAMOS, SWIMM etc.) and in filling in all the non-scientific sections of the form.
In the case of coordinated projects, the staff of the Office is also active in liaising with the partners for the collection of data useful for completing the participation form.
The Office assists the researcher in the economic planning of resources so that the budget is balanced and consistent with the activities envisaged by the project.
In the event of a positive evaluation of the proposal, the Research Office offers its assistance in managing relations with the funding body, in filling out the forms and rescheduling the budget, as well as in preparing and reviewing the necessary deeds and in resolving the related legal issues to the implementation of the project (consortium agreement, ethical part, third party management, intellectual property rights, etc.)
The good progress of the project and the correct management of the administrative, legal and financial aspects require constant coordination with the scientific manager and with the project manager to offer adequate support also in the preparation and presentation of periodic and final reports.
The office staff has the necessary language skills to offer support during project meetings.
During the project, the staff of the Office takes on the preparation of the financial statements of the expenses incurred, reconciling the internal accounting of the University with the breakdown of costs required by the international reference legislation.
The office makes use of specific IT support applications, including the "TEMPrO" software, which was developed to meet the specific management needs of personnel participating in research projects.
