A comparative analysis of European Societies in the light of globalisation and Europeanisation. The main focus is on social inequalities and social citizenship, employment, welfare systems, economic institutions, migration, identities and values, political and social participation. The third module of the course tackles the problem of the relationship between economic development, social cohesion and democracy.

The first module tackles the issues of socio-economic transformation, varieties of capitalism and welfare , the implications of the knowledge society, innovation.
The second part of the course deals with issues related to social complexity, particularly in the dimension of the relationship between civil society and political institutions, migration, multiculturalism and challenges to social citizenship.
During the third module students are asked to attend a seminar focused on one of the main topics of social change in contemporary society.
