Prof. Dr. Zhiyong Shi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Florence. He received his Ph.D. in 2021 from the same department. His thesis explored innovative wheel-rail and vehicle-track interaction models including track flexibility. He has extensive interests in engineering problems in the railway industry and has developed his experience in railway vehicle dynamics simulation, wheel/rail surface wear prediction, and global/local degraded adhesion modeling. His most recent activities include the investigation of wear mapping and characterization of the wear mechanisms in the wheel-rail interface.
