Valeria Galimi è Professoressa Associata di Storia contemporanea presso il Dipartimento Sagas dell’Università di Firenze e chercheure associée permanente all’Institut d’histoire du temps présent (Parigi).
Dottore di ricerca (Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna di Pisa), è stata post-doc presso l’Institut d’histoire du temps présent e successivamente assegnista di ricerca all’Università di Modena e Siena (2005-2009) e all’Università della Tuscia (2013-2015). Dal 2016 al 2018 è stata ricercatrice TD lett. A presso il Dipartimento di Storia dell’Università di Milano e dal 2018 ricercatrice TD lett. B presso il Dipartimento Sagas a Firenze. Ha svolto attività di insegnamento e di ricerca presso Sciences Po Paris (2009-2010), l’International Institute for Holocaust Research di Gerusalemme (2010-2011); il Vidal Sassoon International Center for the Study of Antisemitism, Hebrew University, Gerusalemme, (2013) e l’European University Institute (2014); il Mandel Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies, Washington (2016); il laboratorio SIRICE (Identités, Relations Internationales et Civilisations de l'Europe, CNRS, Université Sorbonne Paris I e Paris IV) (2017). È stata Visiting Professor presso il Dipartimento di Storia dell’Ecole Normale Supérieure a Parigi (2015) e presso il Dipartimento di Storia dell’Université Paris VIII (2018).
Ha lavorato su molti temi della storia contemporanea europea, in particolare la storia politica e culturale della Francia nel XX secolo, l’antisemitismo e i fascismi in Europa, la storia degli intellettuali durante il periodo fra le due guerre, la seconda guerra mondiale e la Shoah. Sta attualmente lavorando a un volume (in inglese per la casa editrice Routledge) sulla violenza politica e l’”antisemitismo di strada” in Francia negli anni Trenta in quattro città: Parigi, Strasburgo, Lione e Orano.
Un altro campo di indagine per Galimi è la Public History. In particolare, come curatrice di rilevanti mostre storico-documentarie, si interessa alla riflessione su musei e le esposizioni storiche. Dal 2017 insegna al Master di Public History organizzato dall’Università di Milano e dalla Fondazione G.G.Feltrinelli. Partecipa al gruppo di lavoro dell’Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree "History in the Public Sphere" (Sagas Unifi, Central European University, Budapest-Vienna, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies) come membro dell’Evaluation committee.
Per il 2020-22 è responsabile di un progetto sui sistema di internamento e di repressione durante la seconda guerra mondiale in Toscana, finanziato dal programma PorFSE 2014-2020 (Assegnista di ricerca dr.ssa Chiara Renzo). Presso il SAGAS è membro dell’unità di ricerca MTS (Modern Transcultural Studies), membro della commissione didattica e della commissione paritetica docenti studenti per il corso di laurea in Storia (L-42); è inoltre coordinatrice del gruppo di lavoro per i progetti competitivi e referente per il Dipartimento presso l'Ateneo per il programma Euniwell.
Per il 2021-2022 è responsabile insieme a Giovanni Tarantino (coordinatore) e Irene Biemmi del progetto (ammesso al finanziamento di Ateneo sulla base di un bando competitivo) In Your Face. A Research Collaboratory and a Pedagogical Handbook Mapping Racial and Sexist Visual Stereotypes.
È stata redattice della rivista "Mestiere di storico" (2012-2019); fa parte della Direzione della rivista “Società e Storia” e di “Passato e presente”, per la quale è membro del comitato di coordinamento della Direzione.

Valeria Galimi is an Associate Professor in Contemporary History at Sagas Department and Chercheuse associée at the Institut d’histoire du temps présent (Paris).
She earned her PhD in History at Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna in Pisa (doctorante associée at the Institut d’histoire du temps présent). Post-doc at the IHTP, she has been assegnista di ricerca at University of Modena and Siena (2005-2009) and at University of Tuscia (Viterbo, 2013-2015). In 2016-2018 she has been Research Lecturer (ricercatrice TDA) at the History Department, University of Milan and tenured-track Assistant Professor at the Sagas Department in Florence. In 2009-2010 she taught on Methodology of History at Sciences Po Paris. She has been a Fellow at the Sciences Po Paris (2009-2010), the International Institute for Holocaust Research, Israel (2010-11); The Vidal Sassoon International Center for the Study of Antisemitism, Hebrew University, Israel (2013) and European University Institute (2014), the Mandel Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies, Washington (2016); the center SIRICE (CNRS- Université Sorbonne Paris I and IV, Identités, Relations Internationales et Civilisations de l'Europe) (2017). She has been a Visiting Professor at Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris (2015) and at the Université Paris VIII (2018).
She has research experience in several areas of contemporary history, in particular the political and cultural history of Contemporary France, the history of antisemitism and fascism in Europe, the history of intellectuals in interwar period, the Second World War and the Holocaust. Galimi is currently writing a volume (under contract with Routledge) on political violence and “street antisemitism” in France in the 1930s in four cities: Paris, Strasbourg, Lyon and Oran.
Another field of interest for Galimi is public history. In particular, having been a curator of important exhibitions, public history through a reflection on historical exhibitions and museums. Since 2017 she teaches in the Master of Public History course promoted by the University of Milan and the Fondazione Feltrinelli. She is actively involved in the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree "History in the Public Sphere" (Sagas Unifi, Central European University, Budapest-Vienna, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies) as member of Evaluation committee.
In 2020-2022 she is also responsible for a project on the internment camps and detention spaces in Tuscany during WWII funded by the PorFSE 2014-2020 program (assegnista di ricerca dr. Chiara Renzo). In the Sagas Department, she is a member of the SAGAS Unit research MTS (Modern Transcultural Studies). She is a member of the teaching commission and of the joint teaching commission for the degree course in History (L-42); she is also coordinator of the working group for competitive projects and representative for the Sagas Department at the University for the Euniwell program.
